Chloë (2015) (750ml)

This Shiraz, named after our daughter, is an easy drinking, but full bodied, wine packed with berry and plum flavours, smooth and well balanced, with good supportive tannins apparent in the mouth and a hint of mocha and spiciness. Great with venison, steak, chicken and even a light curry.
Our Chloë Shiraz was our first foray into the creation of a quality small batch alcoholic product and our first step on the journey to creating The Franschhoek Distillery at La Verdure Farm. The market for our Shiraz grapes had fallen through the floor and the financial choice was simple, lose the grapes (let them fall to the ground) and buy a pension policy (like any good accountant should do), or use the grapes and buy some French Oak Barriques.
We went for the latter, staying close to the traditional Huguenot recipe for which Shiraz in Franschhoek is renowned and created something very special. Our Chloe Shiraz, named after our daughter, is deeply coloured ruby red, full bodied, soft and supple with smooth tannins. Restrained aromas of mocha, sweet ripe plums, blackberry and smoky French Oak interlaced with subdued notes of cedar provide a well-balanced excellent depth of flavour to the palate and a lengthy finish.
We often enjoy a glass of Chloë Shiraz, watching the sunset, from the veranda at Trout cottage, found at the top of the Farm. It’s pretty special. So special we had an artist draw a charcoal sketch of Trout Cottage, overlooking the picturesque dam and Franschhoek Mountains and this is what you see on the label.
