The story behind our award winners
Three years ago we made an extreme and drastic shift away from farming our fruit for the export market. This was mainly due to the fact that in order to export the fruit, our plums in particular, increasing amounts of poisons were required. It was visually evident how they were affecting the ecosystem and biodiversity on the Farm.
Through following a more eco-conscious manner of growing our fruit and the use of virtually no pesticides whatsoever, we have restored the balance here. Not only are there now an ever growing number of indigenous birds whose songs fill the air, there are also plenty of chameleons in our orchards and even endangered species of frogs and toads.
When life throws you 30 tons of plums, distil them into Slivovic! This is how the Franschhoek Distillery was born.
Using very traditional fire-driven methods of pot- distillation, and keeping true to the small batch ethos, only the spirits of the highest quality are produced here.

In Eastern Europe Slivovic is drunk before or after meals or whenever families come together. She is best served at room temperature in the winter or in a chilled glass during summer.

Our Franschhoek Absinthe has just won a Gold award from the SA Womens’ Wine and Spirits competition.
This spirit Aperitif is produced by distilling our Chloe shiraz wine through a variety of botanicals. Staying true to the traditional Absinthe of the 16th century, this spirit is pot-distilled with the botanicals suspended in the hood of the still, which produces a double infusion, having the effect of imparting a myriad of flavours.
This is a gin worthy of celebrations, and can be mixed with a variety of tonics, and accompanied with either a slice of cucumber or lemon. For the more passionate gin lover, allow this spirit to breathe for a few minutes in the glass and enjoy!
Our latest edition is our Rum. Through a slow infusion process and careful distillation, this rum has an excellent earthy taste with notes of ripe figs and mild woody spice. It can be mixed into your favourite cocktail or simply enjoyed neat. A Must Try for any rum connoisseur!!
Our Premium Franschhoek Absinthe takes our double award winning Franschhoek Absinthe to another level. Think of it as “Absinthe on steroids”. The idea of creating this gem followed the comments of Kurt Schlechter, international judge and owner of the Cape Town bar, Cause & Effect, who has often said that our Franschhoek Absinthe is the best Absinthe in the world outside of Paris. He however felt that it needed to be stronger in line with its historical roots.
This Shiraz, named after our daughter, is an easy drinking, but full bodied, wine packed with berry and plum flavours, smooth and well balanced, with good supportive tannins apparent in the mouth and a hint of mocha and spiciness. Great with venison, steak, chicken and even a light curry.

Not only are there now an ever growing number of indigenous birds whose songs fill the air, there are also plenty of chameleons in our orchards and even endangered species of frogs and toads.
Leveraging off nature and our beautiful surroundings also made economic sense, allowing nature, our trees and fynbos to provide amazing fruit and botanicals in a self- sustaining, eco-friendly and poison free environment.

Our Farm has been independently and professionally assessed, as part of the Western Cape regulatory process, to be self-sufficient, with a positive impact on the environment and the Farm’s eco-system.
Our vision is very much aligned to the Franschhoek “Eat, Drink, Sleep!” vision of artisan quality products, made with passion, a respect and a commitment to Mother Nature in our quest for greener living, and drinking!
